“Man paints with his brains and not with his hands” Michelangelo
Before he painted the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo created studies of various scenes. This is one such study. The figure is Libyan Sbiyl, named Phemonoe, the daughter of Zeus. She was the first woman oracle during the time of the Greeks.
Even after her death she “ceased not from divination.”
Here is the first line of her Oracle:
“I am by birth half mortal and half divine”
